Biogas
Investigation of solid matter fermentation of landscape maintenance material from grassland sites in Lower Saxony
The aim is to ferment mown grassland in the Oldenburg region, which is not (or no longer) profitable from an economic point of view, but is absolutely essential for nature conservation reasons (preservation and improvement of the diversity of flora and fauna), into biogas using the solid matter fermentation process. The focus is primarily on Lower Saxony's raised bog grasslands with "problem species" such as the smooth rush(Juncus effusus) and the grass meadow grass(Deschampsia cespitosa). However, the growths of large-scale sedge stands on fen sites are also fermented. In addition to the ERDF proposal "HTC in Lower Saxony - Development, optimisation and modelling of a continuously operating pilot plant" by the University of Oldenburg, the fermentation residues produced during fermentation in the HTC and the HTC process water in the solid matter fermentation are to be further used for material and energy purposes or as a starting substrate.
