Global trade and travel are making it easier for more and more plant species to open up new habitats. Many of these so-called neophytes are harmless, do not cause any damage and fit into the existing environment without any problems. Some, on the other hand, displace native species or change habitats and thus affect other species. These immigrants are referred to as invasive. As highly adapted organisms of the beach, dune or salt marsh habitats, the plants of the East Frisian Islands may be particularly at risk. Who are these "invasive neophytes", where can they be found and how harmful are they really? In his lecture, doctoral candidate Markus Prinz gives an insight into current invasion research and applied nature conservation.
