Carl von Ossietzky – Composition-Prize 18th international Competition
for wind-ensemble with percussion
With the announcement of the 18th International Composition competition 2018 the Institute of Music of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg intends to contribute to the expansion of the repertoire for wind instruments and percussion. For many years in numerous European countries a consistent brass-music scene has become established, in which melodies from traditional music are mixed with elements from Jazz and Rock music. The compositions submitted to the competition should fit to this genre. An authentic melody deriving from European traditional music is to form the basis of the submitted compositions.

Piccolo (optional), 2 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets in Bb, 1 bassoon, 2 alto- saxophones in Eb, 2 tenor-saxophone in Bb, 1 bariton-saxophon in Eb (optional), 2 trumpets in Bb (3rd optional), 2 horns in F, 2 trombones (3rd optional), 1 euphonium, 1 tuba, drumset, Percussion, Marimba (optional)
Duration: max. 10 minutes
The submitted compositions should not exceed an medium level of difficulty and should not have already been published of performed. There is no limitation of age of the participants.

Please, submit three copies of the composition anonymously, as well as an anonymous commentary of your composition with an indication of the source of the used traditional-music-melody. Please, also send a closed envelope containing name and address of the composer, as well as a short CV (biography). Submissions are only accepted by mail (post) – no E-Mail!
The premiere of the awarded compositions will be performed by the Ensemble Europäische Blasmusik (European Brass-Music Ensemble of the Institute of Music conducted by Peter Vollhardt) in 2019 in the University-auditorium.

With the announcement of the 18th International Composition Competition 2018, the Institute of Music at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg aims to further expand the repertoire for wind ensemble and percussion. In many European countries, a wind music scene has been established for many years in which folk music melodies are mixed with jazz and rock elements. Compositions submitted for the competition should be in this genre. The basis of the compositions should be a freely chosen authentic folk melody from Europe.
Instrumentation:
Piccolo flute (optional), 2 flutes, 1 oboe, 1 bassoon, 2 clarinets in Bb, 2 alto saxophones in Eb, 2 tenor saxophones in Bb, 1 baritone saxophone in Eb (optional), 2 trumpets in Bb (3rd optional), 2 horns in F, 2 trombones (3rd optional), 1 euphonium, 1 tuba, drumset, percussion, marimba (optional).
Performance time: maximum 10 minutes
The works submitted should not exceed a medium level of difficulty and must not have been published or performed before. There is no age limit for participation in the competition.
