19th international competition for organ
The Carl von Ossietzky Composition Prize was announced this year for the nineteenth time by the Institute of Music at the University of Oldenburg.
The ensembles for which the competition is organised change from year to year. In this way, a growing repertoire of compositions of medium difficulty is continuously created, bringing together pupils, students and amateurs from different styles to play together.
The 19th Carl von Ossietzky Composition Prize was awarded for compositions for organ. 37 works from 8 countries (3 continents) were submitted. The jury (Violeta Dinescu, Christoph Keller, Johannes von Hoff, Roberto Reale and Michael Searby) has decided to honour the following compositions:
1st prize (1,000 euros): Günter Berger (Dötlingen)
Cross-cultural rhapsodic organ paraphrases to a synagogue psalmody, an Islamic call to prayer and a Gregorian hymn
2nd prize (700 euros): Hermann Kruse (Dortmund)
Toccata on "Out of deep grade"
3rd prize (500 euros): Simon Gregor (Laipheim)

Thesponsorship award (300 euros) goes to

The award ceremony and the performance of selected compositions by Johannes von Hoff will take place on Sunday, 3 May 2020 at 5 pm in the Ansgari Church.
This year, the Carl von Ossietzky Composition Competition is open to works for piano and orchestra.
