Title

Possibilities for the automated testing of accessible web applications

Description of the

Accessibility and minimising barriers are important issues when it comes to making modern IT applications accessible to people with disabilities. The web in particular poses lasting challenges here, as modern applications use a variety of technologies such as CSS, JavaScript and AJAX, but these technologies in particular can often only be taken into account to a limited extent or not at all by assistive systems for people with disabilities. It is therefore a major challenge to implement IT applications, especially on the web, in an appropriately accessible way. Standards such as the BITV regulate the requirements for accessible applications and organisations such as BIK@Work help with implementation. As part of the work, the special requirements of accessible websites are to be analysed and tested with regard to their automated testability. Both the basic testability and the availability of suitable tools are to be analysed and verified. In addition, extension options are to be described.
