At the Institute of Social Sciences, Faculty I – Educational and Social Sciences at the University of Oldenburg, a position is available in the research group "Sociology of Social Inequalities" (Prof. Dr. Gundula Zoch) as soon as possible for a

Research Associate (PhD Candidate)
(m/f/d, salary group 13 TV-L, reference "FwN Inequalities")

with a 50% full-time equivalent (currently 19,9 hours), payment group 13 of the General Framework Agreement on Public Services in the Federal States of Germany (TV-L). The employment contract is limited to 36 months.

Your responsibilities include:

  • planning, organizing, and conducting courses and examinations in the BA (German or English) or MA (English) program of the Institute for Social Sciences with a teaching load of 1 course (2 SWS) per semester
  • your doctoral thesis
  • participation in the research of the research group “Sociology of Social Inequalities”
  • taking on administrative and organizational tasks in the research group

Requirements are:

  • a completed Master's degree (or equivalent degree such as Magister, Dipl.-Uni) in social sciences, preferably in sociology, demography, economics, statistics, or related fields
  • sound knowledge and initial experience with longitudinal or causal methods
  • knowledge and experience in empirical research methods with Stata or R, particularly in the empirical analysis of longitudinal survey data
  • interest in at least one of the research areas of the research group
  • very good command of written and spoken English; good written and oral communication skills and a strong ability to present complex issues in a comprehensible way
  • basic knowledge of German and/or the willingness to improve these skills
  • a self-reliant, goal- and result-oriented work attitude and ability to work in a team

The ideal candidate holds the following credentials:

  • interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment and in cooperating with related disciplines
  • experience in academic writing in English
  • interest in science communication and providing policy advice
  • gender competencies
  • willingness to take business trips (nationally and internationally)
