The Department of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation at School I - School of Educational and Social Sciences seeks applications for a

Professorship in
Special education and didactics in the field of impaired socio-emotional development
salary scale W3 (m/f/x)

as soon as possible.

As part of the implementation of inclusive education, the state of Lower Saxony is providing extensive funding for qualifying teaching practitioners and expanding teaching and research opportunities in inclusive and special needs education. The Department of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation is being gradually expanded and additional professorships in special needs education are being created. The new professors will have the opportunity to actively participate in and co-shape a dynamic development process in an appealing research and teaching environment.

The empirical research contributions made by the professorship will advance the development of the School’s profile in “Participation and education” and the Department’s focus areas “Barriers, multiple disadvantages, and impairments” and “Professionalisation of practitioner education.” The successful applicant will also support research initiatives in the educational sciences and subject didactics network, especially within the framework supplied by the Centre for Teacher Education – Didactic Centre (DiZ).

We are seeking a candidate with a strong track record in teaching and in research in the thematic area of “Special education and didactics in the field of impaired socio-emotional development and the capability to represent this field in its full breadth. The successful candidate is required to be engaged in specific research questions in the research priority area of emotional and social development in the context of inclusion in schools in at least two of the following focus areas and be able to demonstrate this expertise with relevant publications:

  • Diagnostics and counselling
  • Drafting and evaluating individual and group-based support or teaching plans
  • Prevention and intervention in school and non-school fields of practice
  • Professionalisation and networking in the context of inclusive education

Experience with the successful acquisition of third-party funding and the delivery of third-party funded projects are required, as well as relevant publications, especially in specialist journals.

International experience in the area of research and teaching is desired. Practical experience with special needs education support in schools or outside schools is also desirable.

Teaching duties include representing the research priority area of emotional and social development in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Special Needs Education and the Master's of Education programmes in Special Needs Education, Business Education, and Rehabilitation Pedagogy.

As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). Applicants must have completed a university degree in special needs education with a specialisation in emotional and social development or have an equivalent qualification (e.g. in therapeutic pedagogy, rehabilitation pedagogy, social pedagogy or psychology). Applicants shall demonstrate their ability to connect to the described focus areas in research and teaching in a concept of max. 2 pages each.

Professorships with a functional description involving duties in education science or didactics can only be filled with candidates who can additionally provide evidence of at least three years of practical experience at a school or suitable pedagogical experience, or appropriate empirical research experience corresponding to these duties.
