ForWind – Center for Wind Energy Research has a vacancy in the team »Energy Meteorology« of the research group »Wind Energy Systems« at the Institute of Physics of the University of Oldenburg starting as soon as possible for a

Research Assistant (f/m/d)
Development of automatized plausibility checks for data from a research wind farm
(E13 TV-L, 100%)

Job description

In a third-party funded project ForWind together with its partners from the national Research Alliance is currently developing a wind farm that will provide a worldwide unique infrastructure for wind energy research. The site will e.g., allow for gaining an enhanced understanding of the interaction between atmospheric flows and wind energy converters and the development of improved wind turbine design as well as wind farm control.
In order to guarantee continuously a high data quality, automatized, on-the-fly, plausibility checks will be applied to all data collected in the research wind farm. ForWind is responsible for the development of these automatized plausibility procedures, while a project partner will do the final integration into the infrastructure of the research wind farm. The results of the plausibility checks will be stored together with the measurements in a central data management system. Automatic plausibility checks will not only allow for an early detection of sensor failures but also for relieving researchers of standard tasks and by this increase the efficiency of their work. Centralized provision of plausibility checked data will also make sure that research results will be based on high quality data only.

Among others, your tasks comprise:

  • Collection of plausibility procedures that are currently in use by the research groups that are responsible for sensors in the research wind farm alpha ventus.
  • Application and evaluation of these plausibility procedures.
  • Identification of further criteria to check the plausibility of the measurement data.
  • Developing suggestions for automatized plausibility checks that should be implemented into the central data management system.
  • Continuous evaluation of the final set of plausibility checks.

Job offer
