Research / Projects
The provision of plant material and resources for research and teaching is an important task of Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Garden is involved in research projects, projects and international co-operations via the University of Oldenburg.
Further information can be found on the pages of the Biodiversity and Evolution of Plants working group at the University of Oldenburg.

How can we make our gardens climate-adapted?
The project "How can we make our gardens climate-adapted?" is the result of a collaboration between environmental science students at the University of Oldenburg and the Botanical Garden. From 13 May to 13 August 2023, visitors can find the "climate bed" and the "status quo bed" in Heiligengeiststraße as part of the city gardens.
On 10 June, there will be an action day on which visitors will receive exciting information about creating a climate garden and can get involved in hands-on activities. We cordially invite all interested parties to come along and be inspired.

BEESPOKE
Pollination by insects is an important economic factor. However, the number of wild bees, bumblebees, butterflies and hoverflies is decreasing throughout Europe because there are fewer and fewer flowering plants. The EU project BEESPOKE (Benefitting Ecosystems through Evaluation of food Supplies for Pollination to Open up Knowledge for End users) aims to change this: The aim is to develop new methods, seed mixtures and recommendations for farmers so that insect diversity in fields and meadows increases again. The European Interreg programme "North Sea" is funding the project with 4.1 million euros over three and a half years. A total of 16 partners from six countries bordering the North Sea are involved, with the British Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust taking the lead. The Botanical Garden is participating with the NS/HB Grassland Centre with a project to optimise seed mixtures in grassland. More information in the video

Protecting bee diversity B-R(h)apsody
Current:
The B-RAP project, which raises awareness of the threat to bees and insects, has been awarded a prize by the Ems-Dollart Region.
The EDR Border Prize honours the special cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands and is endowed with €500.00.
Stinzenflora Monitor
The EU Interreg programme of the EU is an association of larger and smaller parks to the left and right of the border with the Netherlands, which would like to draw attention to the special stink plants. The Botanical Garden Oldenburg describes the easternmost tip of the programme.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the planned guided tours have been cancelled - but there is a very well maintained website that draws attention to the locations. Short films have also been made in the gardens. The species currently in flower are described and documented with photos.
