This older part of the Botanical Garden on Philosophenweg is a public display and teaching garden covering an area of 3.7 hectares.

The garden is divided into many beds and themed areas, including two show greenhouses.

The Philosophenweg site is also home to the "Green School" and the garden administration.

A glass house, the "Botanikum", is a popular venue for wedding or birthday parties in summer.
