at the University of Oldenburg Registration and programme at uol.de/diz/projekte/bne-projekt/tagung-der-naechste-schritt/ ARCHIV Prof. Dr. Michael Komorek, professor of physics didactics at the University of Oldenburg and head of the ESD Agency project, presented Resie Gaumann, supervisor of the student cooperative at the Fröbelschule Oldenburg, and Susanne Behrens, deputy headmistress of the Fröbelschule Oldenburg, with the hot-off-the-press handout "Nachhaltige Schülerfirmen: Founding, Implementing, Shaping". The student co-operative "miksmaks" was founded at the Fröbelschule back in 2006 - one of 450 student companies and co-operatives in Lower Saxony that are committed to sustainability.

Scientists from the Oldenburg university project BNE-Agentur developed the handout in co-operation with Prof. Dr Gerhard de Haan, educational scientist at the Free University of Berlin. It is part of the nationwide project "Multiplier Training for Sustainable Student Companies" and is funded by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of Lower Saxony. The handout is aimed at teachers and extracurricular specialists who want to found and establish student companies or student co-operatives at their institutions. It contains information on how to set up a company, provides information on the learning processes in student companies and clarifies the approach of sustainable management. It also outlines the possibilities of placing student companies on the market and aligning them with ecological and social aspects.
"Student companies teach social skills and promote the recognition of ecological relationships and knowledge of business processes," explains Komorek. They are therefore an outstanding element of vocational orientation and future-oriented education in all types of schools. The "Lower Saxony Network of Sustainable Student Companies and Student Co-operatives" will be distributing the handout to schools with sustainable student companies in the coming weeks.

The ESD Agency project at the university
The BNE-Agentur Niedersachsen e.V. is based at the Didactic Centre (DiZ) of the University of Oldenburg. The agency promotes education for sustainable development at general and vocational schools in Lower Saxony and supports the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) proclaimed by the United Nations. The United Nations proclaimed the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from 2005 to 2014. ESD is an educational concept that deals with the integration of sustainability topics in all types of schools worldwide. The aim of this global education initiative is to convey the idea of justice between generations and the different regions, nations and cultures of the world in schools. The Oldenburg University project "ESD Agency" aims to integrate and implement sustainability topics more strongly in teacher training and further education. The project was initiated in 2009 by the BNE-Agentur Niedersachsen e. V. in Westerstede. Since 1 September 2012, the tasks of the agency have been taken over by the University of Oldenburg. Further information on training courses in the field of education for sustainable development can be found at www.ofz.uni-oldenburg.de/37282.html.
The ESD Agency project:
The ESD Agency project, which was previously based in Westerstede under the BNEAgentur Niedersachsen e.V., has been based at the Didactic Centre (DiZ) of the University of Oldenburg since 01.09.2012 and was terminated on 31.12.2013.
The project supports the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) proclaimed by the United Nations for 2005 to 2014. The new project leader is physics didactics expert Prof Dr Michael Komorek.
The agency, which has been in existence since 2009, promotes education for sustainable development at general and vocational schools in Lower Saxony. Supported by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, it has anchored the principle of sustainable development in many schools and in numerous subjects in teacher training programmes and courses over the past few years. Student companies and co-operatives as a learning field for sustainable economics are another field of activity of the initiative. There are now around 420 student companies and co-operatives in Lower Saxony. In future, project leader Komorek wants to place greater emphasis on teacher training and further education as well as accompanying research. "We want to show how ESD topics and pupil-orientated teaching methods can be used to achieve the goals of the core curriculum in training courses that go out into the field," says the scientist.
