OLAW (2010-2014)

Teacher training in the joint project OLAW - Development of diagnostic and support skills

The OLAW project started in March 2010 and ended in summer 2014 with the 7th symposium and the publication of the book "Diagnostik für lernwirksamen Unterricht". The project was funded by the Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft.
The OLAW actors would like to express their sincere thanks to the many contributors from the study seminars, the cooperating schools and the University of Oldenburg. Around 550 students and trainee teachers have taken part in the OLAW events since 2010. The OLAW final report provides an overview of the project activities and publications. The book "Diagnostik für lernwirksamen Unterricht" was published to mark the project completion.

The professionalism of teachers is of crucial importance for the quality of teaching. In particular, the ability to diagnose has come into focus. This is because well-developed diagnostics and high teaching effectiveness are closely linked. This book on diagnostics for learning-effective teaching is the result of several years of research into the development of diagnostic and support skills in prospective teachers. It contains 15 educational science and didactic contributions focussing on biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. The contributions combine research and practical perspectives. On the one hand, they are dedicated to proven arrangements for the development of professional diagnostic skills and, on the other, to characteristic diagnostic approaches for effective implementation in the classroom. The heterogeneity of pupils is explicitly taken into account. The book is aimed at teachers at universities and teacher training colleges, student teachers and trainee teachers as well as teachers who are all particularly interested in reliable diagnostics and targeted support.

____________________________________________________________ The 7th OLAW symposium took place on Monday, 23 June 2014 from 4:30 p.m. to approx. 7:00 p.m. in the Lecture Centre (Senate Meeting Room) at the University of Oldenburg.
The keynote speaker was Prof Dr Ilka Parchmann from the IPN in Kiel, who spoke about current key issues in science didactics research.

6th symposium: Diagnostics for Effective Learning Instruction On 28 February and 1 March 2013, the conference "Diagnostics for Effective Learning Instruction" took place in the BIS Hall at the University of Oldenburg. The conference focussed on the ability to diagnose and support, which is a task of central importance for the professional skills of teachers. Eight speakers from Germany and Switzerland explored various questions relating to diagnostics on a theoretical, empirical and practical basis. The speakers came from the fields of education, psychology and various specialised didactics. The book on the conference "Diagnostics for effective learning" will be published by Schneider-Verlag in June 2014. ____________________________________________________________________________

Objectives of the OLAW project The joint project OLAW(Oldenburg, Leer, Aurich, Wilhelmshaven) aims to better connect the previously largely separate phases of teacher training at the university and at the teacher training centres. To this end, lecturers at the university and trainers at the teacher training centres offer joint events for teacher trainees and pre-service teachers in the subjects of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics on curricularly coordinated topics.
