Event formats and modules developed in the joint project "Innovative University Jade-Oldenburg!" in cooperation with university scientists, schools and extracurricular learning centres in the Northwest region

Mobile learning unit on the sense of hearing for lending to teachers and educational multipliers ("SOUNDLAB")

• Development of a mobile learning unit about the sense of hearing in collaboration with the "Hearing4all" Cluster of Excellence, Fraunhofer IDMT (Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology), Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics and the GfG design office in Bremen: In the SOUNDLAB, participants embark on an acoustic journey, immersing themselves in a mysterious world with acoustic surprises. It enables active listening experiences, a gain in knowledge through independent research and sensitisation for people with hearing impairments. The SOUNDLAB contains four learning topics about the sense of hearing: structure of the ear/ sound/ hearing processing in the brain/ hearing impairments.

Student academies lasting several days (students experiment together with scientists on current research topics at the partner universities)

• "Marine measurement technology and coastal marine research" in collaboration with the ICBM (Marine Sensor Systems working group)
• "Landscape conservation area in an urban context" in collaboration with the IBU (Landscape Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrogeology and Landscape Water Balance working groups).
• "Soil and plant resources on the island of Spiekeroog" (carried out several times with different target groups) in co-operation with the IBU (Soil Science, Hydrogeology and Landscape Hydrology WG) and the ICBM (Geoecology WG).
• "Forest laboratory: Bollenhagen moorland forest" in cooperation with the IBU (Landscape Ecology working group) and the extracurricular learning centre "Das Bollwerk - Die Bollenhagenwald-Erkundungsstation".

New exhibitions organised annually at The Smart House Oldenburg (2019, 2020, 2021)

• "In demand!" Questions from pupils in the region - expertly answered by scientists, humorously illustrated by an artist (2020 and 2021).

"Professionals at school" (hands-on science for pupils during regular school lessons)

• "Ea day at the ICBM" focussing on marine measurement technology in cooperation with the ICBM (Marine Sensor Systems working group).
• "Oldenburg turns off" Wind energy research in cooperation with ForWind (Centre for Wind Energy Research), including a tour of the WindLab and inspection of the wind tunnel.
• "Live chat with FS Sonne", pupils interview scientists on board a research vessel in collaboration with the ICBM (Marine Sensor Systems working group).
• "Microbiological working methods" in collaboration with the ICBM (Planktology working group).
• "Research, work and study at the ICBM" Insights into current marine research.
• "Sustainable supply chains through digital technologies - can digitalisation reduce exploitation?" in collaboration with OFFIS (Competence Cluster Sustainability).
• "TP1 featuring PUUK - Survey of pupils' needs for an Oldenburg environmental information portal" in cooperation with Business Informatics (Department of Very Large Business Applications).
• "Questions to science on the subject of environmental protection and sustainability" Questions from pupils at a special school are answered competently, followed by a poster exhibition to secure the results.
• Climate talk 2021 "Biodiversity in climate change" in cooperation with the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB).
• "A day on the sail training ship Grand Duchess Elisabeth - academic appointments at sea" in cooperation with the Jade University of Applied Sciences (Department of Maritime Studies and Logistics in Elsfleth).
• Democracy - Autocracy" in cooperation with the Institute of Social Sciences (AG Politische Bildung).

Science workshops (experimentation at school or at non-university learning centres)

• "Insects, where are you?" Catching methods, identification and current findings from insect research in cooperation with the IBU (Landscape Ecology working group) and the extracurricular learning centre "Grüne Schule" (Biology Didactics working group).
• "Fascinating specialists in the Wadden Sea and salt marshes", ecosystem research on the Wadden Sea and coast in collaboration with the ICBM (Geoecology working group).
• "Biodiversity: Mussels & Snails of the Lower Saxony Coast" in cooperation with the ICBM (Wadden Sea Learning Lab)
• "SOUNDLAB - see with your ears", eight science workshops for schoolchildren with the mobile learning unit on the sense of hearing, four learning topics: structure of the ear/ sound/ hearing processing in the brain/ hearing impairment.
• "Zartbitter - 5,000 years of cocoa history - scientific findings on sustainability and colonialism" in collaboration with a museum educator and the Institute of History.

• Actionbounds "Emergency landing of the RV Discovery", three digital scavenger hunts through the city of Oldenburg, topics: society/ nature/ history, in cooperation with the "Digital Learning Labs" of the city of Oldenburg (Urban Data Labs and Civic Data Labs for the Smart City).
• Experimental videos for citizen participation during the nationwide "Digital Week" and during the pre-Christmas Advent season.
• Geocaching educational trail for schoolchildren and citizens along the research and education strand on the island of Spiekeroog: "Soil and plant treasures on Spiekeroog" (starting point: N 53° 46.133' E 007° 43.058').
• Virtual museum for the exhibition "Nachgefragt!" for the long-term re-use of the figurative exhibition in The Smart House Oldenburg, in cooperation with colleagues from IHJO.(Inquired 2020 "MOZILLA HUBS" and Inquired 2021 "GatherTown" .

Further training for teachers and educational multipliers on learning materials developed in the DBU project "From marine research to the National Park Houses": Establishment of a network between the University of Oldenburg and the National Park Houses. Implementation of evaluated educational programmes from current research on the topic of threats to and protection of the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.
