The landscape in north-west Germany would naturally be a mosaic of deciduous forest and very extensive moors and dunes on the coast. Extensive pasture farming also produced heathland.

As a reminder of these rare types of vegetation, you can visit a small raised bog and other types of moorland, a large area of heathland and a dune with its typical vegetation. There is also a small pond with the rarest aquatic plants in Lower Saxony.
