On Monday, 3 March 2025 between 10:00 and 10:30 , the VPN tunnel Globalprotect will also be switched to 2FA.

Essentially, after clicking on "Connect" in the Globalprotect client, the tunnel is no longer established directly, but a window opens in which you have to enter the login data as on the web and then later also the second factor.

For this to work, Globalprotect must be installed in a current version. This should often be the case. If not (at the latest when, for example, it is no longer possible to set up the VPN), you can update the new client via ZEN Applications or download and install the latest version at software.uni-oldenburg.de.

A tunnel will no longer be established with older versions of the Globalprotect client. As with webmail, the second factor is not required if you have not yet configured it.

How do I find my current version?

In the Globalprotect window with the Connect button, click on the burger menu (the three dashes) at the top right and on Settings, where the version number is displayed under 'About'.

How does the installation work via software.uni-oldenburg.de?

After logging in, select the Globalprotect folder and then the appropriate operating system:

• Linux/ for Debian, Ubuntu (deb), Redhat, Suse (rpm) (The version for others (src/) is currently faulty (as of 2025-03-10))
• MacOS/ on an Apple computer
• Windows/ 32 or 64 bit
• Windows UWP/ I hope who needs it knows it himself ...

Then you can download the appropriate installer file and start it, the old configuration is usually taken over, if not the configuration is described at uol.de/itdienste/services/zugang-zum-campusnetz
