About me

I am a doctoral candidate in marine environmental sciences and biodiversity specialising in non-invasive methods for monitoring fauna in the North Sea.

I am investigating the effects of bottom trawling and its prohibition on fauna communities in marine protected areas in the North Sea using non-invasive methods such as Baited Remote Underwater Video Stations (BRUVS), Diver Operated Video (DOVs) and molecular biology analysed Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS).

My research interests in this area also include the development and comparison of methods to established and other new monitoring tools as well as impact modelling approaches and machine learning for marine fauna detection.

I am looking forward to interdisciplinary projects in marine ecology, biogeochemistry, fisheries, aquaculture and chemical analysis. Environmental sciences form the basis of my academic background.

Previous projects & skills

In previous academic projects I have focussed on contaminant analysis of DDTs, PCBs and plastics using GC/MS and spectroscopic techniques on bird eggs, fish and partly from sediments. I have also conducted experiments in recirculating aquaculture systems with fish and experiments with microsensors at marine boundary layers.

Previously, I worked as a chemical laboratory technician in marine sciences and in the flavour and fragrance industry. I was involved in the development of an eddy covariance system and in the application and method optimisation of biogeochemical in-situ and laboratory analyses. In addition, I have experience with sediment core incubation experiments for geoengineering approaches, long-term stability testing of odorants and scientific field work, including offshore work and international exchange.
