Kitchen experiments

Ocean and coastal areas are under threat

Kitchen experiments help to understand the danger

Welcome to the kitchen experiments!

On the Day of the Sea, we would like to introduce you to the ICBM's research on the sea and coastal areas. Usually on this day there is an opportunity to get hands-on in the ICBM laboratories - unfortunately this is not possible this year due to the pandemic.

So the event is now taking place virtually and I thought about how I could support it. So I came up with the idea of offering experiments that anyone can recreate in their own kitchen. They provide brief insights into developments relating to the sea and coasts that affect everyone.

I have prepared explanatory videos to go with them. I hope they will inspire you to get active in the kitchen yourself later on. In three experiments, you can explore the problems that arise in marine and coastal areas as a result of human behaviour. After the experiments, you can take part in a final quiz.

We start with a brief introduction to the problems that we humans cause through excessive consumption and too much waste. Not only researchers, but all of us should pay attention to what causes the problems in and around the sea. Only if we understand what is polluting our marine and coastal areas can we change our behaviour.

If you want to carry out all the experiments, you can get all the materials from this list ready!
