Intensity and Phase Statistics in Speckle Fields
The investigation of the spatial structures of intensity and phase distributions in speckle patterns is pursued with the aim of improving the fringe quality when using spatial phase shifting in electronic speckle pattern interferometry. Of particular interest here are so-called screw dislocations in the phase (phase singularities), which occur at points of vanishing light amplitude.
The image shows the measured intensity and phase distribution in a real speckle pattern. The intensity is shown in black and white, the phase in the form of coloured isolines with a phase spacing of approx. 45 degrees. Phase singularities occur at the intersections of the isolines.
