Glossary (A - Z with own terms)

With the "Glossary overview" element, you can create your own glossary (an alphabetically sorted A-Z list of terms including descriptions). A jump list of the initial letters can be created automatically and a search can be offered.

Example glossary (without extras)

Dritter Begriff

Beschreibungstext zum dritten Begriff. Darf auch alle möglichen Formatierungen enthalten.

Erster Begriff

Beschreibungstext zum ersten Begriff. Darf auch alle möglichen Formatierungen enthalten.

Vierter Glossarbegriff

Erläuterungstext zum vierten Begriff

Zweiter Begriff

Beschreibungstext zum zweiten Begriff. Darf auch alle möglichen Formatierungen enthalten.

Create glossary entries

Glossary entries are created as "data records" in the Web→List view. This can either be done in a specially created system folder (recommended for many terms) or in a normal web page.

  1. Switch to the Web→List view
  2. Click on the Create new data record button at the top
  3. Click on A21 Glossary → sub-item "Glossary".
  4. Fill in the fields:
    • Short form: The actual term
    • Description: Explanatory text for the term. This text may contain normal formatting, but should be formatted simply so that the internal formats are not displayed more prominently than the term list itself.
    • optional: Source: If available, enter the name of the source
    • optional: Source (URL): If available, enter the http address of the source
    • optional: Authorised by: If applicable, state who authorised the text.
    • optional: Last change: Enter the date the term was edited.

Insert glossary list into a website

The corresponding content element is somewhat hidden during creation and can best be copied here in TYPO3 as a sample element and then inserted into your own page:

Various settings can be made in the "Glossary overview" element in its "Plug-in:" sub-tab:

  • Starting point: The page or system folder where the individual glossary entries are located.
  • Show A-Z: A clickable A-Z list is displayed above the list in order to be able to jump to the corresponding position within the list (useful for glossaries with many terms)
  • Show search field: A search field for finding glossary terms directly is displayed.
  • Show footer (with references): Further information is displayed below each glossary term if this has also been entered.

The glossary terms are automatically displayed in alphabetical order, see example below.
