Leda - Life-history traits of the Northwestern European flora: A data-base

Leda - Life-history traits of the Northwestern European flora: A data-base

Duration: 1 November 2002 to 31 October 2005

funded by "The European Union 5th Framework Programme for Research within the Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development Programme (EESD)" as part of the action " Global change, climate and biodiversity"

The LEDA project was coordinated by the Landscape Ecology working group at the Centre for Environmental Modelling (CEM) at the University of Oldenburg. A total of ten working groups from different European countries were involved in this project. LEDA involves the development of an open, web-based, Europe-wide database of plant characteristics that are relevant for nature conservation and the sustainable development of biodiversity in European landscapes. The development of the database started with the flora of Northwest Europe. For this purpose, data on more than 30 characteristics of over 2000 species were compiled. To analyse the data, special retrieval and data mining techniques are offered by the database software to be developed. The information technology structure of this database and the exemplary connection of an atlas on the distribution of wild plants was carried out by the Environmental Informatics working group at OFFIS.
