Commitment Module crediting of student council work

• only added in Göttingen 2 to 3 semesters ago, therefore still being fine-tuned itself

• Brief introduction of the workshop leaders and participants, name and university, enquiry about expectations

How does Göttingen do it?

• Recognition as a module with 6 ECTS credits
  • came up on the initiative of the School; School approached Student council
• Offices that are remunerated are scored less or not at all (Asta/StuRa/etc.)
• In Göttingen there is an association for the O-Phase
  • different point matrices for student body and association

• Matrix for student council work is shown
  • subdivided into academic self-administration and student self-administration
  • you have to reach 10 points to apply for the engagement module or to be downgraded
  • People from the offices have written down how many hours they have invested in the office -> converted into points
  • for certain positions you get points per commission, for others only per legislative period
  • you can use a maximum of 20 points (can be downgraded a maximum of 2 times)
  • downgrading only applies to the School's hurdles, not to the semester (not for Bafög)
  • New alternative to downgrading: Engagement module
    • there is a module description for Bachelor and Master with learning objectives and competences, course: accompanying seminar (1 SWS)/practical part, examination: essay (3-page activity report), module coordinator: Dean (but the student body checks that the work has actually been done)
    • Accompanying seminar: Block seminar: For FS first-year students, where the various possible ways of volunteering are explained: University organisation chart, student and academic committees, getting to know members of the committees, rules and duties of the areas of responsibility, mentoring first-year students, introducing committee work from the perspective of other status groups, explaining system accreditation, games
    • The module can only be credited once
• There is a separate unit for checking the points = networking unit
  • is also checked by the Dean's Office and the Examinations Office
  • there are no grades
  • The department has more tasks (e.g. networking with other student bodies, with the BuFaK, etc.) -> tasks are assigned to the spokesperson's office
• FSR members = elected members (spokespersons, speakers, etc.) -> bear the responsibility
  • people who "only" assist do not receive any points
  • Student council work is still voluntary work
• Points could also be taken retroactively
• FSR can also award points for events (e.g. for the BuFaK Göttingen)
• Engagement module at WiPäd difficult due to fewer options
  • in Göttingen it is now possible in the Master's programme
  • it is not possible in the Bachelor's programme because it would be disadvantageous for students

• the 10 points can be collected over several semesters, there is no limit to when you have to do it and it is not reset to zero after one semester

• Has anything changed compared to before?
  • Additional argument in favour of student council work
  • but for most people it's not the motivation to do student council work
  • those who only come for the points are quickly put off the work (you don't get the points for free) and leave again

• How long did the introduction take from the first proposal?
  • Planning approx. 1 semester
  • what took a long time was the coordination in the study commissions etc.

• Can you collect points through both the association and the student body?
  • Yes, you can combine the two (collect points through both)
  • The association and student body are quite well connected
