Versa study - maintaining independence
STAYING MOBILE
Muscle strength and balance are key to being able to move safely and without assistance. These aspects are therefore a prerequisite for your independence and are of particular importance in old age. As part of the Versa Study, Oldenburg Hospital is offering to test your muscle strength and balance and inform you about possible risks and countermeasures at an early stage.
The Versa Study is being conducted by the University Clinic for Geriatrics, the OFFIS Institute for Computing Science, the University of Oldenburg, the Jade University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg and the University of Bremen. In this project, procedures are being tested that can better predict the deterioration of muscles in old age and thus the possible loss of mobility.
Participation is voluntary and free of charge; there are no out-of-pocket expenses for you or your health insurance company. You will, of course, receive a flat-rate travel allowance.
PARTICIPATION
From July 2015 to January 2016, we are looking for people aged 70 and over who can move independently outside the home and climb ten flights of stairs. If you need aids such as a walking stick or rollator, this is not a problem. As part of the study, you will visit the study centre of the University of Oldenburg, which is located on Ammerländer Heerstraße, three times. During these visits, a study counsellor will carry out simple exercises with you to test your muscle strength, balance and walking ability. You will also be given a belt with sensors to wear for a week after each visit to give us additional information about the type and intensity of your movements. The three visits to our study centre will take place over a period of 24 months.
Feel free to contact us to enrol in the Versa study or to find out more!
