LeMINT

Promoting interest in STEM teaching (LeMINT)

The LeMINT project is being funded by the EWE Foundation until 2027 and is being carried out by the physics didactics department at the University of Oldenburg in collaboration with four schools. The aim of LeMINT is to promote the interest of secondary school students in introducing younger students to STEM topics as well as research-based learning and experimentation.

The participating students are given the freedom to try out STEM topics at their schools and in the Oldenburg teaching and learning labs. They gain insights into the academic appointment of a STEM teacher and the STEM teaching degree programme.

As part of LeMINT, the university cooperates with the integrated comprehensive schools in Wilhelmshaven and Delmenhorst, the Ulricianum grammar school in Aurich and the Willms grammar school in Delmenhorst.

  • The participating schools open up elective courses, study groups, advanced courses or seminar papers to the participating pupils in order to develop and test STEM formats for younger year groups.
  • The university invites the participants to courses and workshops to introduce them to specialised didactic thinking. In addition, the participating pupils develop and carry out laboratory programmes for school classes in grades 5 to 7 together with student teachers of STEM subjects.
  • Student assistants act as "buddies" for the pupils to ensure individual guidance and support.

Funded by:

The EWE Foundation covers the costs of experimental materials, workshops including overnight stays and travel between the schools and the university.
