LeMINT

Promoting interest in STEM teaching (LeMINT)

The LeMINT project is funded by the EWE Foundation until 2027 and is being run by the Department of Physics Education at the University of Oldenburg in collaboration with four schools. The aim of LeMINT is to encourage upper secondary school pupils to take an interest in introducing younger pupils to STEM subjects, as well as to research-based learning and experimentation.

The participating pupils are given the freedom, both at their own schools and in the teaching and learning laboratories in Oldenburg, to try their hand at teaching STEM subjects. In doing so, they gain an insight into the profession of a STEM teacher and into the STEM teacher training programme.

As part of the LeMINT programme, the university collaborates with the integrated comprehensive schools in Wilhelmshaven and Delmenhorst, the Ulricianum Grammar School in Aurich and the Willms Grammar School in Delmenhorst.

  • The participating schools offer the pupils involved elective courses, study groups, advanced courses or research projects in seminar subjects, so that they can develop and test STEM teaching formats for younger year groups.
  • The university invites participants to attend lectures and workshops to introduce them to subject-specific pedagogical thinking. In addition, the participating pupils work together with teacher training students specialising in STEM subjects to develop and run laboratory sessions for school classes in Years 5 to 7.
  • Student assistants act as ‘buddies’ for the pupils to ensure individual guidance and support.

Funded by:

The EWE Foundation covers the costs of experimental materials, workshops (including accommodation) and travel between the schools and the university.
