Das Lehrangebot für den B.Sc. Uwi im SoSe26 wird am Di, 20.01.26 um 12:00 Uhr in Stud.IP freigeschaltet. Modules
Study programme
The study programme for the BSc Environmental Sciences consists of the following modules:
Compulsory modules
The core curriculum (120 CP) of the degree programme begins with a basic education in mathematics and natural sciences. In the first two semesters, in-depth basic scientific knowledge is taught in the following compulsory modules (63 CP in total):

- Physics I for Environmental Sciences (phy930)
- Mathematics for Environmental Sciences (mat985)
- Organismic Biology for Environmental Sciences (bio214)
- Knowledge of Forms for Environmental Sciences (mar231)
- Environmental and Earth Sciences (mar020)
All modules are compulsory. The topic of the environmental orientation project (mar020, summer semester) and the dates of the exercise groups can be selected.
Compulsory elective modules
To expand the basic knowledge, three modules (9 CP each) must be selected from the following compulsory elective modules (27 CP in total):

Accent modules
Three modules (10 CP each, 30 CP in total) must be selected from the following range of courses in order to emphasise specific subject areas. Two specialisations must be covered:

Specialisation in Microbiology/Molecular Ecology

- Vegetation Ecology (mar140)
Specialisation in Earth Sciences
- Sedimentology and Sediment Geochemistry (mar175)
- Hydrogeology and Hydrochemistry (mar170)
Specialisation in Environmental Planning/Environmental Law
- Nature Conservation Planning (mar190)
Area of specialisation
The area of specialisation (abbreviation PB) offers the opportunity to develop your own qualification profile beyond specialised studies and to gain further practical experience. It comprises 45 CP, of which 30 CP are allocated to PB modules and 15 CP to the training module (contact internship).
The modules to be selected in the area of specialisation amounting to 30 CP can be used
- for further in-depth study and specialisation(subject-specific professionalisation),
- to develop general skills and personal competences, as well as to acquire basic skills in scientific work and communication(interdisciplinary professionalisation)
- to learn languages.
Courses completed at a foreign university (provided they are not credited in the compulsory elective or accent area) can be credited under the original designation in the PB (study abroad). Additional elective or specialisation modules can also be credited.
For professionalisation, it is recommended to take one of the following 12 CP modules in Environmental Sciences:
- Environmental Analysis Project Study (pb180)
- Project Study Oceanography (pb257)
Some other subject-specific PB modules (6 CP) are highly recommended to complement certain specialisations and are an important component of certain study paths.
In general, modules (usually 6 CP each) for professionalisation can be freely selected from the entire range of Bachelor's courses offered by the university (exception: compulsory modules in degree programmes with restricted admission).
Study abroad (credit modules)
The modules labelled study abroad (mar991, mar992 and mar933) are used to transfer credits earned during a stay abroad. These modules can be used to credit 1 or 2 modules from the compulsory elective or specialisation area. Further information can be found in the section Stays abroad.
Practical and Bachelor's thesis modules
The following two modules are compulsory for all students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Environmental Sciences.
In the training module (prx109, 15 CP), students independently deal with an environmental science topic in contact with everyday working life in various professional fields as part of the contact internship. The module can also be used to make contact with potential employers or research institutions outside the university. The module comprises the internship (9 weeks/360 h, 12 CP), a report and a seminar. Professional internships or internships completed outside the university may be recognised as equivalent.
In addition to the Bachelor's thesis (12 CP), the Bachelor's thesis module (bam, 15 CP) includes an accompanying course, usually in the form of the seminar of the working group (3 CP) in which the thesis is written. There is no marking of the Bachelor's thesis defence. In the seminar, the work is usually discussed and progress and results of the work are reported.

Module handbooks are compilations of module descriptions that provide comprehensive and detailed information about the modules and are therefore an important source of information for planning your degree programme.
- A module handbook is generated as a PDF from the current module descriptions in StudIP .
The module handbook in StudIP does not contain any modules from the area of specialisation. This must be created separately. Some information is missing (e.g. lecturers, examinations). Can be found in StudIP under Search:

There is no module handbook in English. Occasionally, English-language module descriptions are requested, e.g. for applications abroad. The module descriptions created in cooperation with the students are collected and made available by the course counselling service. We hope to expand this collection together.
