Profile
Judaism has had a lasting influence on European culture and can rightly be seen as an integral part of European history, religion and philosophy. The "Jewish Studies" professionalisation programme addresses this and aims to provide students with insights into the history, society, religion and philosophy of Judaism as early as the Bachelor's degree.
The acquisition of basic language skills is essential for the study of Judaism: a language course in either Old Testament or modern Hebrew is therefore also part of the professionalisation programme.
In addition to acquiring language skills, the specialised courses on the programme aim to provide students with insights into Jewish history, religion and philosophy and to encourage discussion and analysis of current intercultural and interreligious problems and fields of research.
Structure of the programme
As part of the "Jewish Studies" professionalisation programme, three modules, each worth 6 CP, will be offered from winter semester 2015/16:
- pb116: Iwrit (Modern Hebrew) (compulsory elective)
- pb117: Old Testament Hebrew (compulsory elective)
- pb265: Intercultural Jewish Studies (compulsory)
In order to successfully complete the programme, two modules must be taken; module pb265 is a compulsory part of the programme; in the language modules, students can choose between pb116 and pb117.
