Information on the MRI examination in infants as part of the EARLY SOCo Brain study
Over the course of the next few months and years, your child will master great developmental tasks. It will learn to perceive its environment through its five senses, combine the most diverse perceptions and sensory impressions with each other and thereby develop its own idea of the world. Your child will also mature emotionally and understand their first social interactions.
Fascinated by these developments, we would like to accompany and record part of your child's development with our emotional-social-cognitive study.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an examination method that provides doctors with additional information about your child's brain development, organic development and changes. As MRI involves a magnetic field, it is important for the examination that your child is not wearing any metal objects (clothes, earrings).
The examination takes about 20 to 30 minutes. As your child must lie still for the duration of the examination, your child will be examined during his/her sleep phase. You will have the opportunity to breastfeed, feed and change your child in peace before the examination. Your child will be fitted with headphones during the examination, as the MRI can be noisy. You can accompany your child and have eye contact during the examination.
Participation in the examination is voluntary and does not harbour any health risks for your child. Your child will not be exposed to any radiation and will not have any blood taken or anything similar.
A bank transfer from the paediatrician or a medical certificate is not necessary, the costs are borne by the hospital
The examination will take place in building W30 (NESSY) of the Carl-von-Ossietzky University, Wechloy site. You will be contacted by us at the time of the test with a letter containing all information, the address and a suggested date.
We look forward to seeing you and your child!
