Brassed Off. With timpani and trumpets
A piece of musical theatre about a brass band in an English coal mine
In the early 1990s in England, one colliery after another in the coal mining industry is being closed. The miners at Grimley colliery, plagued by existential fears, lose interest in their traditional brass band, even though they are about to win a national competition. Without a colliery, there is no colliery band for them. Can the young flugelhorn player Gloria, who is accepted into the band, give the miners new motivation ...?
The play is based on the very successful English film of the same name from 1996, which won the award for best foreign film in Germany in 1998. The theatre version will be staged at the Institute of Music. 20 students perform both as musicians in the brass band and in the acting roles. Premerie:
