Hilletje Jans theatre project
Hilletje Jans theatre project
The special life of Hilletje Jans - a theatre project with music
with pupils from the Liebfrauenschule Oldenburg and students from the Institute of Music
In the 18th century, at the "time of the first potatoes in the Netherlands", Hilletje Jans masters every challenge with courage, cleverness and, above all, perseverance. After the death of her parents, she moves in with her aunt Therèse in Amsterdam. But instead of care, intrigue awaits her. Her aunt sends her to prison, the spinning house, for seven years. Back in freedom, she ends up back with her aunt. When she can no longer stand her harassment, she flees and decides to disguise herself as a man. She becomes Jan Hille, travels the seven seas and eventually even takes command of the "Good Hope" as captain. It is only in the role of a man that she receives the respect she lacked as a girl and young woman.
Under the direction of Anke Hoffmann and Peter Vollhardt, pupils from the Liebfrauenschule and students from the Institute of Music will perform "The Special Life of Hilletje Jans" by Ad de Bont, one of the best-known youth theatre authors from the Netherlands. The students not only perform on stage as actors and musicians, but are also responsible for the dramaturgy, stage design and arrangement of the musical pieces. Anke Hoffmann and Peter Vollhardt see this as an opportunity to experience "school in a practical way and in its creative possibilities". For the pupils, the appeal and at the same time the challenge lies in the interaction with students.
The play will be performed on 26 and 29 June 2011 at 7 pm and on 27 June at 11 am in the auditorium of the University of Oldenburg. Tickets for €5/€3 (concessions) are available from Peter Vollhardt (peter.vollhardt@uol.de) and at the box office.
