DDR-Revue
DDR-Revue
Multimedia revue on music and attitude to life in 40 years of GDR socialism
"Whether in the East or the West
It's never best where you are.
Search, soul, search!"
(Gerulf Pannach, 1980)
Students and teachers from the subjects of Music, Art & Media and Textiles at Carl von Ossietzky University have produced a revue that uses lots of original music and film footage to tell the story of the utopia of a philanthropic socialism and the failure of this idea, of the much-invoked sense of unity in the GDR, the everyday harassment by the state and the creative shaping of the private sphere.
With music by Ernst Busch, Hanns Eisler, Manfred Krug, Wolf Biermann, Pannach and Kunert, Nina Hagen, Lift and many others.
"The result is a thoroughly successful performance that skilfully maintains its tension and dramaturgical arc. The commitment and rousing acting of the participants and the charm and inventiveness of the production had the audience in the packed auditorium applauding enthusiastically time and again."
