Children's rights in action - hands-on exhibition

Students develop a mobile hands-on exhibition on children's rights for educational practice

There are puzzles, crafts and quizzes. From interactive radio plays to their own version of the classic quiz show 1, 2 or 3, there is a colourful range of activities to encourage children to join in and try things out.

"Children's Rights in Action", the hands-on exhibition, opened its doors for the first time at the University of Oldenburg's KinderCampus in April 2024. Since then, the children's rights exhibition has gone on tour: e.g. to the Child Protection Association in Westerstede or to the special school for intellectual development on Kleiststraße in Oldenburg. Feel free to contact us!

The aim of the concept developed by students of education is to make children's rights accessible and tangible in a playful and creative way. The interplay of analogue and digital elements works particularly well - both indoors and outdoors:

Explanatory videos created by students using the Lege-Trick technique tell short stories from family life. The children actively help shape the course of the story in an interactive radio play about non-violent communication. Pen and paper are required for the crossword puzzle, in which children learn more about their right to protection from violence and the right to protect their privacy.

Privacy is also the focus of the creative station, where children can colour and write on their own door hangers to take home. One of the highlights is the feedback tree made of wood and cork by students, which participants can use for praise and criticism: "I think it's great that there are exhibitions because it's important to protect children's rights." (Feedback on the KinderCampus, April 2024)

The exhibition is made possible by the university's participate@UOL project, which develops and tests innovative teaching and learning formats: Peer education is a key pillar of this: students take on teaching tasks and thus promote the learning process of their fellow students as well as the further development of their own skills.

Children's rights in action will be used in other places of learning and further developed in future courses together with students according to the concept of peer education.

Under the guidance of Dr Nadine Hüllbrock (front, 2nd from right) and the organisation of the hands-on exhibition by Patrick Therkorn (front, 2nd from left), student assistant in the participate@UOL project, education students developed the children's rights in action.
