The University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) is a very small university with only around 2,600 students. The focus is on undergraduate education. With this in mind, Oldenburg students can only choose Bachelor courses. The UWS is particularly popular with teacher training students (primary level) and students of business studies and biology.
The UWS is located in Superior on the western shore of Lake Superior. Duluth, the next largest city with a population of around 30,000, can be reached by bus in 20 minutes. The proximity to the water and the Canadian border make the location a popular holiday destination. Similar to the neighbouring (by American standards) Northern Michigan University (NMU) in Marquette, the University of Wisconsin Superior also offers a wide range of leisure activities. Winters in Superior can get very cold (below -20 °C).
