Research-based learning is an integral part of the Sachunterricht degree programme.

In module isb022, for example, students collect and analyse students' ideas on a topic of their choice and create suitable learning opportunities.

In the project volume course (module prx566), which runs over three semesters, students go through the complete cycle of research-based learning, based on Sonntag et al. (2017). In the preparatory seminar, students develop initial questions on current and relevant subject-didactic or school development-related topics related to subject teaching. They acquire basic methodological knowledge and test this on case studies. At the end of the semester, students are expected to enter the practical block of GHR 300 with an elaborated question and methodological tools to carry out their research project. In the accompanying course, questions of content and organisation as well as possible methodological adjustments are discussed in the group. In the follow-up event, the students present their research results to the students of the next cohort.

In module isb039, students develop their own material and templates for use in initial lessons over the course of the semester based on specialist literature and research findings. Various relevant subject areas such as the learning environment, experimentation or concepts of subject teaching are developed independently.

In their Bachelor's and Master's theses, students devote themselves to their own research projects, which then become the focus of their final thesis.
