The Department for Computing Science at the School of Computing Science, Business Administration, Economics, and Law (School II) seeks applications for a
Professorship (m/f/x) in Explainable and Safe AI salary scale W2
commencing as soon as possible.
We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding international track record in application of automated verification or related mechanized reasoning techniques to artificial intelligence in general and machine learning in particular. Research experience in several of the following areas is required:
- Algorithmic and logical foundations of explainability, explanation generation, and self-explanation;
- Formal description techniques for functional and non-functional properties of machine learning systems;
- Mechanized verification and automatic correction of machine learning algorithms and of system functionality acquired by machine learning;
- Probabilistic models for the characterization and analysis of computational complexity and convergence rates of machine learning algorithms;
- Algorithmic and logical methods for detecting and counteracting adversarial attacks on machine learning;
- Continuous verification techniques addressing in-situ machine learning.
Required are also
- peer-reviewed international publications and research collaborations proving expertise in machine learning and automated verification;
- relevant academic teaching experience, as s/he is expected to participate in teaching Bachelors’ and Masters’ courses in Computer Science in German and English;
- proven experience in the acquisition and management of third-party funded projects.
Integration of the research concept into the university’s core research areas is expected, particularly through contributions to the university’s research centers "Human-Cyber-Physical Systems: Safety, Acceptance, Social and Cultural Embeddedness" and “Data Science”. There are excellent opportunities for networking within the University of Oldenburg as well as its partner universities Bremen and Groningen covering both fundamental and applied research. In its environment, the associated institute OFFIS at Oldenburg, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI at Oldenburg and Osnabrück, and the Institute for Systems Engineering for Future Mobility of the German Aerospace Center DLR offer excellent opportunities in application-oriented research. As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected. Furthermore, candidates are required to participate actively in the university’s self-administration.
Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
