  • Five students present one of several systems for intelligent and resource-saving plant irrigation.

One of several systems for intelligent and resource-saving plant irrigation, here with a water tank under the soil.

  • The aim of this group is to develop an intelligent bird bath that dispenses water when required during dry periods and cleans itself as effectively as possible.

  • No more rubbish next to overflowing bins! To realise this goal, a smart waste bin is being developed. It should open automatically when a person wants to use it and report its fill level so that it can be emptied in good time.

  • The MediBox is an intelligent and patient-orientated medication box. It reminds patients acoustically and visually to take their medication on time and notifies carers if the medication schedule is not adhered to.

  • A water-saving shower that encourages users to save water and shower quickly. It has a timer that switches the shower off when it is exceeded.

  • "LINA - Learning Interface for Natural Language" is the name of the group's project, which aims to support and motivate beginners in language acquisition through play. The prototype consists of small tiles with words that can be strung together according to the task at hand.

Interim presentations Soft Skills and Technical Expertise 2026

This year, students are once again working on exciting projects in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals as part of the Soft Skills and Technical Expertise event. They presented their project ideas together with low-tech prototypes.

This year, second-semester computer science students and students from other degree programmes are once again working on exciting projects in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This week, more than 60 students presented their project ideas in interim presentations and showcased illustrative low-tech prototypes. From intelligent irrigation systems and water-saving showers with a timer function to patient-orientated and intelligent medication boxes, everything is included. We look forward to presenting the finished projects at the end of the semester!

As part of the two-semester course Soft Skills and Technical Competence, students acquire important computer science-specific and key skills for the rest of their studies, which they can apply as part of a group project in the summer semester. These include hardware-related programming, electrical engineering basics, 3D modelling, time and project management and presentation techniques.
