In several research and development projects - often financed by third-party funding and in co-operation with other subject didactics - factors for the improvement of Computing Science as a school subject are being investigated. These factors can be assigned to one of the following major sub-areas that determine the teaching of Computing Science: The teacher's view, the student's view and the material.
The aim is to develop an overall concept for Computing Science education that extends from the primary level to the further education of Computing Science teachers and places the perspective and needs of the respective learners at the centre. Therefore, research into pupils' perceptions of Computing Science as well as the analysis and development of teaching materials, teaching methods and conditions for teacher training in Computing Science are all part of the department's research.
In addition, a teacher training centre and a student centre for Computing Science are currently being set up and are closely involved in the research projects. This so-called symbiotic implementation strategy always focuses on the goal of not only gaining new insights through research, but also integrating these into school practice at the same time.
