Research vessel

With the ICBM on a research vessel

What awaits you on these pages?

Twelve curious, motivated students from the Environmental Sciences degree programme will take you on a virtual research trip. As part of a seminar focussing on environmental education and knowledge transfer, they have developed exciting insights into the topic of research vessels.

Here they inform you about it,

  • why research vessels are important and what you can expect in such a "floating laboratory";
  • how a CTD probe works and what it measures (CTD probes, or "CTD" for short, are standard measuring instruments used in oceanography);
  • how to use a CTD;
  • and how the CTD data helps us to understand the ocean!
  • how you as "lay scientists" can help to explore the ocean. Take part in the "EyeOnWater" project!

Questions and discussions: When and where?

Ask your questions to students! You will have the opportunity to ask your questions about the topics here, about marine sciences in general and about studying (marine) environmental sciences at the University of Oldenburg for 25 minutes in several groups on the Day of the Sea! Four student groups, each reinforced by an expert, will be available to answer your questions.
