CLIMATE AND SALT LAKE INVESTIGATIONS AT JADEBUSEN
In 2007, nine students on the geoecology degree programme at the Technical University of Braunschweig initiated a self-organised project under the supervision of the Institute of Geoecology (TU Braunschweig by Prof. Dr. A. Herrmann) and the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment Wilhelmshaven (University of Oldenburg by PD Dr. H. Freund). Motivated by the desire for non-university project work, seven theses were written on the topics of climatology, geobotany and sediment transport. Climate stations were installed in the salt marsh near Cäciliengroden and in the urban area of Wilhelmshaven and measurements were taken over a period of three months. In addition to the recorded data, time series from several DWD and GKSS stations were used in the analysis. Furthermore, the sediment transport of the Jade Bay was modelled. Geodetic terrain surveys of the salt marsh were carried out in combination with geobotanical mapping. The lecture is intended to provide space for technical and professional discussions of the project and to create opportunities for discussion regarding the organisation, financing and feasibility of voluntary project work by students.
