Prof Dr Paul Mecheril

Co-ordinator of the doctoral programme until May 2019, after which I moved to Bielefeld University

I studied psychology and philosophy at the universities of Trier, Bielefeld, Vienna and Münster. I completed my PhD in Psychology at the University of Münster with a thesis on linguistic processes in psychotherapy sessions (it was a long time ago), and I obtained my habilitation in the subject of Educational Science at the University of Bielefeld with a thesis on (multiple) affiliations in a migration society, with the attempt at a theoretical explanation of the concept of ‘natio-ethno-cultural affiliation’ at its centre.

From March 2008 to September 2011, I held the professorship for Intercultural Learning and Social Change at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Innsbruck. Since October 2011, I have been a professor at the Institute of Educational Sciences at the University of Oldenburg, where I am also Director of the Centre for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies.

My teaching and research interests focus on the areas of migration pedagogy, pedagogical professionalism, educational research, and methodological and method-related questions of interpretation.
