Hardship provision
Hardship provision for the engineering degree programme
When allocating places in courses offered by the Department of Technology, students who can provide evidence of one of the so-called hardship reasons will be given priority. To claim a hardship reason, an informal proposal (with the corresponding proof as a scan or photo) must be submitted by email to the relevant lecturer.
In order to be considered for the allocation of course places, the proposal must be submitted to StudIP for the respective module no later than three weeks after the official announcement of the course dates. The student must first register via the normal registration procedure on StudIP. If it is not possible to get a place in the desired seminar within the so-called first-come, first-served procedure, reference can be made to the proposal.
Important: When submitting your application, please be sure to indicate which courses you would like to attend so that you can be registered if necessary.
Criteria and proof for a case of hardship:
1. serious long-term illness or disability
Proof: e.g. current certificate from the doctor stating the duration of the illness, severely disabled person's pass
2. caring for a child up to the age of 14 in your own household
Proof: e.g. birth certificate of the youngest child
3. caring for close relatives (parents, parents-in-law, spouse, partner, siblings or children)
Proof: e.g. certificate from the health insurance company about the care and the effort to be made
4. students of a cooperative subject at the University of Bremen
Proof: e.g. enrolment certificate
Please attach a file with a scanned or photographed proof (see above) to your email. The evidence submitted will of course be treated confidentially and will be deleted immediately upon receipt.
Please note: An academic appointment is not considered a case of hardship.
Please note: There is no general entitlement to consideration of the hardship application; it depends, among other things, on the available capacities in the courses.
