A warm welcome to the homepage of the ATB Workshop (ATB = Technical Education Working Group), the technical student laboratory at the University of Oldenburg. The ATB Workshop is a student laboratory for the subject of Technology at the University of Oldenburg, integrated into the teacher training programme. This learning environment focuses both on product-oriented teaching content (such as the construction of loudspeaker cabinets, digital circuits for remote control of LED strips via smartphone, or repair tasks) and on digitalisation-related activities within the field of automation technology (robotics, microcontroller programming in various contexts). This should not be viewed as a fixed programme structure, as the subject areas are also guided by current research and development projects, which makes it possible to incorporate new technologies—prepared using appropriate methodological and didactic approaches—into the programme (see, for example, the Robonatives project).

Through a variety of course formats covering different subject areas, students have the opportunity to support primary and secondary school pupils in these manufacturing processes and to gain teaching experience in the role of a lecturer. The teaching and learning processes of both school pupils and university students are therefore equally central to the learning centre.

From planning right through to final completion, pupils in the pupil laboratory learn about the various steps required to bring their ideas to life. Machines such as laser cutters and 3D printers enable the rapid production of complex shapes and provide a contemporary insight into modern manufacturing processes.
