Abstract:
In this session, several key developments around equality, diversity and inclusion in the marine
sciences specifically will be highlighted: from job recruiting, to research, to the classroom.
Whilst there are general topics that transcend disciplinary boundaries and that matter across
the landscape of higher education and the university sector, others are more specific and based
on context. What difference does working with the ocean, or at sea, make and also in different
oceans and coastal regions globally? More so, how does it also matter in the lecture hall when
it comes teaching about the (world) oceans, past and present? This session reflects upon the
seascape of diversity in marine science and considerations that might be useful in this field.
