CompactWind II

Title

Wake control of onshore wind farms at instationary meteorological conditions based on standard sensor concept - Sub-Project: Meteorological sensing concept, wind farm control and validation in simulation, wind tunnel and open field

Funding

BMWi (FKZ 0325492H)

Period

01.10.2018 - 30.09.2021

Project partners

  • eno energy-systems GmbH, Rostock
  • fos4X GmbH, München
  • Technische Universität München - Fakultät für Maschinenbau - Lehrstuhl für Windenergie, Garching

Project objectives

The overall objective of the project is the further development and industrial testing of concepts for wake control in wind farms for a more economical, efficient and nature-compatible use of the limited onshore locations.

The sub-project of ForWind - University of Oldenburg concentrates on the meteorological and fluid dynamics influences on wind farm control and the further development and validation of control concepts. Therefore an industrial sensing concept and corresponding analysis methods are to be developed in order to determine in real time the meteorological parameters (e.g. wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, atmospheric stratification) that are essential for wind farm control. Based on this, the robust sector management taking into account stochastic wind conditions and inherent measurement inaccuracies from the predecessor project CompactWind (FKZ 0325492B) will be further developed and tested in the open field. A sophisticated model-based control concept considering dynamic wind farm flow conditions is also developed and tested by simulations and in the wind tunnel. A special focus is the implementation and validation of the various control approaches through state-of-the art research infrastructures (high-performance computing cluster, turbulent wind tunnel, scanning lidar for wind field measurement in the open field). Together with the project partners, the industrial applicability will finally be evaluated and generalized.
