PhD Thesis:

Title: Investigation of photocatalytic elementary processes on the nanoscale in vanadate and tungstate model systems and their applications.

The dissertation is part of the "DyNano" project and focuses on the investigation of photocatalytic elementary processes on the nanoscale in vanadate and tungstate model systems, funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture.

The focus is on synthesizing well-defined nanoscale systems for surface physical measurements, overcoming limitations in existing data from single-crystal models. Techniques on the synthetic side include inter alia hydrothermal synthesis and microwave synthesis.
The characterisation is mainly done by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption.

The project aims to enhance catalytic system efficiency through insights gained from surface physical examinations, exploring applications such as water splitting and organic reactions. The main goal is developing a pump-probe experiment in the STM, using a femtosecond laser pulse to optically excite samples and observing the reaction of a marker molecule through changes in tunnel current.
