Title: Hydrothermal Carbonization of Biomass Residues from Paludiculture and Agriculture
Influence of structure-directing additives on the substrate properties for the application as peat substitute
As part of the joint project “Torffreie klimafreundliche Pflanzensubstrate aus Hydro- und Pyrolysekohlen” (TOPKO) funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, this dissertation focuses on the production of hydrochars with tailored properties for use as peat substitutes in horticulture.
My research investigates how hydrochars produced from different feedstocks and through varied process parameters influence key substrate-related properties. A central aspect of my research is the selective modification of hydrochars through co-carbonization with structure-directing additives.
Overall, my overarching goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the production and application of hydrochars, not only from a chemical and materials perspective but also in relation to their biological impact.
