Congress: Criticism and reconciliation

Anthology "Criticism & Reconciliation" published

Contributions to the Debate on Critical Theory:

We are delighted to draw your attention to the volume *Critique and Reconciliation – Contributions to the Debate on Critical Theory*, which has just been published. The essays are based on papers presented and discussed by postgraduate students and early-career researchers at the ‘Critique and Reconciliation’ conference we organised at the University of Oldenburg in January 2015.

The contributions approach the relationship between the concepts of ‘critique’ and ‘reconciliation’, as well as the analysis of the social conditions constituting this relationship, in a wide variety of ways; at the same time, they promote the congress’s aim of countering the marginalisation of Critical Theory at universities. In this respect, the conference can also be understood as an initiative of the political work carried out by the Philosophy Student Body in Oldenburg. In addition to an introduction and a commentary, the volume contains a total of 18 essays, as well as an appendix introducing the authors and documenting the conference weekend (primarily in the form of photographs). In addition to the academic presentations, this included a supporting programme featuring readings of literary texts and musical performances.

To give you a clearer idea, you can view abstracts of the contributions. We would, of course, be delighted if you were interested in our volume. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy of the volume for €19.80 can do so via Amazon, directly from BIS-Verlag, or by contacting us at .
For those on a tight budget, the texts are also available online free of charge. Furthermore, the anthology can be borrowed from the University of Oldenburg Library as well as from numerous other libraries.

Kind regards,
The editorial team: Jaro Ehlers, Ulrich Mathias Gerr, Eike Köhler, Martin Vialon & Steffen Stolzenberger

Congress of the student body Philosophy: Critique and Reconciliation 2015

Dear friends of philosophy,

We are still working enthusiastically on our conference.

The theme is ‘Criticism and Reconciliation’, guided by the question of the extent to which criticism must necessarily precede reconciliation, and whether, in a world where (radical) criticism does not seem to be welcome, reconciliation can or must nevertheless be both necessary and possible.

Now that the call for papers has closed and we have had to carry out a selection of 20 from 50 applicants, the planning of the programme is now entering its crucial phase. You can still find information on this on the conference website.

And via STUD.IP, you can also stay up to date with the ‘Criticism and Reconciliation’ event.

You can contact us directly by email at:

Call for Papers (closed)

Dear friends of philosophy,

We can tell you with enthusiasm that we, the student body (council) of Philosophy, are organising our own congress next January.

The theme is Critique and Reconciliation and the central question is to what extent critique must necessarily precede reconciliation and whether, in a world in which (radical) critique seems to be undesirable, reconciliation can/must nevertheless be necessary and possible.

The Call for Papers has just been launched, which you can find on the congress homepage along with other information.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and are already looking forward to your participation in the congress from 16 - 17 January 2015 at
.

And you can also keep up to date with the 'Critique and Reconciliation' event via STUD.IP.
