Collecting is a scientific necessity that is inextricably linked to the institution of the museum. Without thoughtful and planned collecting activity, progress in knowledge is hardly possible if it is to go beyond individual consciousness-expanding experiences. Collecting information, knowledge and objects is at the beginning of every research activity.

The "culture of collecting" itself is an interesting ethnological topic.
