Demands and next steps after the open general meeting

At our open general meeting yesterday, 8 October 2025, we had an intensive discussion about our working conditions at the University of Oldenburg and the Studierendenwerk Oldenburg and formulated demands for the university management, politicians and the collective bargaining round.
The result clearly shows that the conditions and challenges differ depending on the area - but we all have one thing in common - there is a lot to improve!

Unfortunately, not all points can be implemented immediately, but as ver.di activists we will keep at it together. The more we become, the more successful we are.

Dear colleagues,

At our open general meeting yesterday, 8 October 2025, we had an intensive discussion about our working conditions at the University of Oldenburg and the Studierendenwerk Oldenburg and formulated demands for the university management, politicians and the collective bargaining round.
The result clearly shows that the conditions and challenges differ depending on the area - but we all have one thing in common - there is a lot to improve!

Important next steps!

The survey of demands for the collective bargaining round for the federal states runs until 31 October. So far, 41 ver.di members and 131 non-members have taken part - that's a good start, but there's more to come! Talk to your colleagues and get involved if you haven't already done so!

We have also looked at the course of the collective bargaining round - the corresponding presentation can be found in the attachment.

What demands have colleagues formulated?

Employees in technology and administration
Colleagues in the MTV sector are demanding significant financial improvements: 11% more pay, a basic amount of €500 and additional days' holiday. They are also focussing on an equal step upgrade and flexible models for converting money into time.
They are also demanding that apprentices are actually taken on and that parking spaces are free of charge. Politically, we are calling for fair pension regulations and greater taxation of assets and inheritances.

Studierendenwerk / Kita
The colleagues in the student union's daycare centres are campaigning for fair pay at TVöD level and greater recognition of pedagogical work - for example through performance bonuses and additional remuneration for instructing apprentices. They are also calling for more holidays and better framework conditions: smaller groups, more staff and more time for preparation and follow-up. These demands are intended to sustainably improve the quality and attractiveness of work in daycare centres.

Academic staff (WiMi)
Academic staff are demanding secure and fair working conditions: Permanent contracts, higher salaries and the abolition of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG) are at the centre of this. In addition, shorter working hours with pay compensation and a minimum proportion of permanent positions are demanded in order to make academic careers more predictable. Clear regulations on time recording and the reduction of unnecessary part-time work are also being called for.

It was great that so many people were there yesterday and got involved! Let's keep at it together! If you want to get active and have any questions about ver.di activities at the university, get in touch with us!

With best regards
The ver.di team at the University of Oldenburg
