About us
Dear ver.di colleagues,
The workload is increasing, there are more and more insecure employment relationships, incomes in the public sector often can no longer keep up with those in the private sector.
For some, university work is fun, for many it could be fun if the day-to-day conditions could be changed. As university employees, we work in an important area - education determines the future of people and our society. That's why it's essential that we take care of the quality of education, but also the quality of our working conditions. Because one is not possible without the other!
As a ver.di works group and shop stewards, we want to get involved in the organisation of working conditions and - as far as possible - in the development of our jobs. However, it's not just about getting involved in the university.
Decisions on our pay and other important factors relating to working conditions are clarified in collective bargaining and set out in collective agreements. The results of these negotiations and therefore the quality of our working conditions depend on our negotiating strength - i.e. the strength of our trade union ver.di. This is clearly demonstrated, for example, by the better working conditions and higher wages in those sectors that are well unionised.
Public budgets are burdened with considerable debt; in the next few years, the "debt brake" will also come into force for the state of Lower Saxony - this means that the pressure on working and pay conditions in the public sector will continue.
Our interests will therefore not be automatically realised or enforced in the future by anonymous forces or through the goodwill of other parties.
For good working conditions and the future of Carl von Ossietzky University, it is necessary that we organise ourselves into a union and exert influence at the university - support us in this!
