This year, the MSP Challenge Simulation Plattform is an essential part of the module „Planning and Management of Coastal Zones and Sea Basins“ in the master programmes „Water and Coastal Management“, “Landscape Ecology”, „Sustainable Economics and Management“ and „Marine Environmental Science“ –  under the theme „Gamification of Higher Education“. Funded within the programme „Innovative Lehr- und Lernkonzepte: Innovation plus“ of the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony Malena Ripken and Tanja Behrendt prepared an innovative learning setting including serious gaming as a cornerstone of the module. During the first gaming day on December 9th - 19 students created their own maritime spatial plans for the North Sea region. As a special guest, one of the developers of the game, Harald Warmelink from Breda University of Applied Science, provided additional support for the students during the planning process. The simulation platform illustrates the consequences of the developed plans on ecology of the North Sea. Shipping and energy production were simulated and evaluated during the second gaming day on December 16th. Stay tuned for the final results.
