Expert workshop "Indicators for a sustainable place of learning"
On 13 August 2018, scientists from the pilot project "Vocational education and training for sustainable development 2015-2019" and representatives from industry, business and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) came together for an expert workshop.
The workshop was organised by f-bb, the Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training. Its aim is to develop indicators for a sustainable learning centre in collaboration with the scientists from the individual pilot projects. With the help of an appropriate set of tools, companies are to be enabled to document and reflect on their own sustainability activities within the framework of training. A link to the already familiar German Sustainability Code (DNK) is planned for this purpose.
Individual expert groups discussed how a corresponding instrument can support the development of companies into sustainable learning centres as part of vocational training for sustainable development (BBnE). In this context, formulation aids were developed and the importance of qualitative questions for the design of sustainable learning centres was discussed.
In a pleasant working atmosphere, the collected indicators were discussed in a targeted, constructive and critical manner despite the summer temperatures. It emerged that a set of indicators must take into account both the needs of the company and the perspective of vocational education and training - a challenge that the f-bb meets with an inductive approach.

For example, important insights were gained for further co-operation between science and practice. In addition, central challenges and areas of tension in design-orientated research were also jointly reflected upon, for example in the context of methodological principles. Overall, the workshop generated numerous impulses that will now be processed and ultimately integrated into the further work on the InnoNE pilot project.

Working forum on vocational education and training for sustainable development (BBNE)
On 16 February 2017, the first working forum for funding line II of the "Vocational education and training for sustainable development 2015 - 2019" funding priority took place at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training. In addition to representatives from the BIBB, the BMBF, the accompanying scientific research and the respective projects, representatives from the field were also present.
Through interviews with the respective project participants and practice partners, all attendees had the opportunity to gain an insight into the work and special features of all pilot projects. This allowed the impression gained at the kick-off event in September to be deepened and encouraged further dialogue. Later, a joint discussion took place on the topics of (1) implementing sustainability in the workplace, (2) anchoring sustainability in practice and (3) multipliers for sustainability. Both practice partners and participants from all projects contributed to the development of these topics, which meant that many perspectives were taken into account.
The working forum thus provided many suggestions/impulses for further work.
First steering group meeting successfully held

Kick-off event of the BIBB
The kick-off event for the funding priority "Vocational education and training for sustainable development 2015 - 2019" took place at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training on 21 September 2016. In addition to representatives from the BIBB, the BMBF and the accompanying scientific research, participants from the 27 collaborative partners from the twelve pilot projects in funding lines I and II took part. The InnoNE pilot scheme was of course also represented.
The main focus of the event was getting to know each other and setting the course for future collaboration. To this end, a "marketplace" was organised where each pilot project was able to present itself. This gave all participants the opportunity to gain an initial impression of the other pilot schemes. Later, initial programmatic and conceptual aspects were developed with the respective accompanying scientific research in workshops differentiated according to funding lines.
InnoNE pilot project presented at the annual conference of the Section for Vocational and Business Education
The 2016 annual conference of the Vocational and Business Education section of the German Educational Research Association took place in Hamburg from 12 to 14 September. The overarching theme of the conference was "Positioning (in) the discipline".
At the conference, Dr Florian und Berding and Andreas Slopinski outlined the contribution that vocational and business education can make to sustainable development in their presentation "Sustainable innovation management and innovation competence - a basis for discussion on the transdisciplinary positioning of vocational education for sustainable development". It achieves this by understanding vocational education and training for sustainable development as a transdisciplinary field of research.
It is against this background that they located the InnoNE pilot project as a transdisciplinary research project. The InnoNE pilot project addresses a socially relevant problem area, generates knowledge that contributes to solving the problem of sustainability, actively involves non-scientific stakeholders in the research and development process and is characterised overall by mutual learning processes.
Successful InnoNE project launch
The joint project "Innovation projects and innovation competence for sustainable development" (InnoNE) was successfully launched in May 2016. It is being carried out jointly by the Department of Vocational and Business Education at the University of Oldenburg and the Professorship of Vocational and Work Education at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the "Vocational Education and Training for Sustainable Development 2015 - 2019" funding programme of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training.
InnoNE is one of six projects from funding line II, which focuses on the design of sustainable learning centres. Consequently, the InnoNE pilot project makes a valuable contribution to the implementation of priority action area 2 of the Global Action Programme "Holistic Transformation of Learning and Teaching Environments", as described in the UNESCO Roadmap to the Global Action Programme.
